Ladies of the Midwest is a documentary on trans elders across the Midwest finding community in Detroit.
Across the American Midwest, where visibility can still cost you everything, a group of trans elders risk late-life reinvention, converging in Detroit to live openly in search of community, safety, and belonging. Having endured decades where being openly trans meant risking family rejection, job loss, violence, or arrest, they now navigate visibility amid a renewed surge of anti-trans rhetoric and legislation. Against the odds, they’ll prove, through chosen family and hard-won joy, that it is never too late to claim community and be seen. Ladies of the Midwest is an in-progress documentary feature film telling their stories.
